SWPBS

Derrimut Primary School has adopted the ‘SWPBS’ (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support).

SWPBS is an evidence-based school improvement approach that creates a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours while providing targeted assistance to students who may need extra support, leading to a more successful and inclusive learning community.

SWPBS is a multi-tiered system of support” with a Tier 1, 2 and 3 approach. Tier 1 targets primary prevention, which puts support in for all students, staff and settings. Tier 2 is secondary prevention, where it focuses on additional specialist groups systems for students with at risk behaviour and Tier 3 is tertiary prevention that is a specialised and individualised system for students with high risk behaviour, provided in addition to primary and secondary prevention.

Our school values are Respect, Responsibility and Excellence. These values underpin all approaches and decision making across our school.

When SWPBS is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction.

Students and staff benefit from:

  • increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • increased time focused on instruction
  • improved social-emotional wellbeing
  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • create safe, orderly and respectful school-wide environments.

Whole School Behaviour Expectation Matrix

We have a Whole School Behaviour Expectation Matrix that supports our students, staff and community to understand the expectations/rules we expect students and staff to demonstrate. We teach what these values and expectations look like in all the different settings in our school, throughout the year and reinforce these expected behaviours. To see our SWPBS Behaviour Expectation Matrix, click here.

Classroom Behaviour Expectation Matrix

Our Classroom Behaviour Expectation Matrix supports our students to know and understand what is expected of them in a classroom setting, during learning time. The Classroom Behaviour Expectation Matrix is co-created with staff and students to ensure we have a shared understanding and vision of what a classroom looks like and sounds like. The Classroom Behaviour Expectation Matrix optimises students' instructional learning and engagement time. To see our Classroom Behaviour Expectation Matrix, click here.

Below is a link document that gives you an explanation on how our SWPBS Whole School Acknowledgment System works at Derrimut Primary School.

We encourage our families to look through our PBIS shop catalogue to promote positivity and acknowledge their child's positive behaviour. Within the catalogue are a range of tangible and non-tangible items that your child can purchase from our SWPBS Shop using their PBIS points.
